Overview

Equipoint Financial, a leading banking institution operating in Region Alpha, faced a unique convergence of threats. Their traditional multi-AZ (Availability Zone) disaster recovery plan was built to handle software failures and localized power outages. However, escalating geopolitical tensions introduced a new reality: the possibility of physical infrastructure strikes occurring simultaneously with massive hacktivist DDoS campaigns.

Because traditional multi-AZ setups provide hardware redundancy but fail against regional physical destruction, Equipoint needed an architecture that could survive the total loss of a primary data center while instantly routing traffic away from active cyberattacks. Furthermore, strict financial regulations required balancing data survival with complex regional data residency laws.

This engagement is part of Dataring's cloud resilience consulting practice, which delivers integrated business continuity and disaster recovery programs purpose-built for the Middle East.

Our Approach

Our Approach

Our Approach

To achieve a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of less than 1 minute and a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of zero, we implemented Design Pattern B: Active-Active Multi-Region.

Geographic Dispersion

We stretched Equipoint's critical payment and trading workloads across Region Alpha and a remote safe zone, Region Beta, ensuring the distance exceeded any localized physical blast radius.

Provider-Independent Critical Path

Relying on a single cloud provider's DNS during a catastrophic regional failure is a major vulnerability. We deployed an independent, multi-provider Anycast DNS and identity management system.

Synchronous Replication

Tier 0 core banking databases were configured with synchronous multi-region replication, paired with a pre-negotiated data residency exception framework for emergency failovers.

Outcome

Outcome

Outcome

During a recent simulated Level 4 "Chaos + Conflict" tabletop exercise, Equipoint successfully maintained 100% uptime. The architecture seamlessly absorbed simulated subsea cable degradation in Region Alpha, instantly routing all payment gateways to Region Beta without dropping a single transaction.
